Electron transfer flavoprotein regulatory factor 1 (ETFRF1), also known as LYRM5, is a mitochondrial protein that acts as a regulator of the electron transfer flavoprotein (ETF) system[3][4]. It is part of the LYR family of mitochondrial proteins and is involved in the regulation of ETF by promoting removal of its FAD cofactor, leading to the inactivation (deflavinylation) of ETF[1][4]. ETFRF1 does not function as a classic enzyme or receptor nor is it currently known as a direct therapeutic target. Instead, its role is to modulate mitochondrial electron transfer activity. While ETF itself is central to fatty acid and amino acid metabolism in mitochondria, ETFRF1 serves to regulate this activity, though the physiological and pathological significance of this regulation remains under exploration[1][3][4]. No direct association with specific diseases or clinical roles (biomarker, drug target) has been established for ETFRF1 to date.
