Elongation factor 1 alpha (EF-1A), also known as eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha (eEF1A), is a highly conserved and essential protein in eukaryotes. It plays a central role in protein synthesis by mediating the delivery of aminoacyl-tRNAs to the A-site of ribosomes during the elongation phase of translation. Beyond this canonical function, EF-1A also participates in cytoskeleton organization, protein degradation, RNA stabilization, transcription regulation, and stress response. Altered EF-1A expression/function has been implicated in diseases like Felty's syndrome, viral infections, and neurodegenerative disorders.
