Elongin A3, pseudogene (ELOA3P) is a primate-specific tandem repeat locus annotated as a pseudogene and suspected to be transcriptionally inactive in most human tissues[1][2]. It is related to the protein-coding Elongin A3, which can function as a transcription elongation factor stimulating RNA polymerase II by suppressing pausing, but ELOA3P itself is believed to be non-coding and does not produce a functional protein[1]. Some studies have reported context-dependent expression and potential evolutionary or regulatory functions for the related ELOA3 locus, particularly in transcriptional regulation and cellular stress response, but these findings do not apply directly to ELOA3P[2][3]. Multiple aliases exist due to evolving gene nomenclature and annotation, including past confusion with protein-coding Elongin A3. Current evidence classifies ELOA3P clearly as a pseudogene, not a therapeutic or druggable target, with no established biological functions or disease associations[1][2].
