Overview

Elongin C pseudogene 21 (ELOCP21) is classified as a pseudogene related to the elongin C gene (TCEB1), which is a component of the elongin complex that regulates the elongation phase of transcription by RNA polymerase II[6][4]. As a pseudogene, ELOCP21 does not encode a protein and has no established role as a drug target, biomarker, or in human disease. The functional parent gene, elongin C (ELOC/TCEB1), participates in regulating transcription and is part of several ubiquitin ligase complexes, but ELOCP21 itself has no demonstrated function in these processes[1][8][4][6]. There is no evidence that ELOCP21 is a molecular target relevant to therapeutics, diagnostics, or pathophysiology. Its nomenclature is sometimes confused with functional homologs, but it should be clearly distinguished as a non-coding pseudogene.
