Overview

Elongin C pseudogene 23 (ELOCP23), also known as TCEB1P23, is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[3][5]. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to known genes but are non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements, meaning they do not encode a functional protein product. ELOCP23 does not produce the elongin C protein and is not associated with any known biological functions, disease roles, or drug interactions[3][5]. This distinguishes it from the functional ELOC (Elongin C) gene, which is a critical component of the transcription factor B (SIII) complex involved in transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II[1][2], but ELOCP23 itself has no known functional role.
