Elongin C pseudogene 34 (ELOCP34)

Target
ELOCP34
Molecular classification
Other (Processed pseudogene/Retrogene)
01

Overview

Elongin C pseudogene 34 (ELOCP34), also known as TCEB1P34, is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 8. It is a retrocopy (retrogene) derived from the parental ELOC (elongin C) gene. Unlike the protein-coding ELOC gene, which acts as a component of the RNA polymerase II elongation complex and plays regulatory roles in transcription, ELOCP34 does not encode a functional protein, nor does it play a known role in biology or human disease. ELOCP34 shares sequence similarity with ELOC but lacks protein-coding capacity and is not a therapeutic target.

Other names
TCEB1P34transcription elongation factor B (SIII), polypeptide 1 pseudogene 34transcription elongation factor B subunit 1 pseudogene 34
02

Mechanism of action

None (not a therapeutic target)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes generally do not encode functional protein products)
04

Disease associations

None (as a pseudogene, ELOCP34 does not have demonstrated roles in disease). Disease associations for the functional ELOC gene should not be attributed to ELOCP34.
05

Safety considerations

None (does not encode a functional product; not a druggable target)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no known drugs interact with ELOCP34 as it is non-functional)
07

Biomarkers

None known for pseudogene ELOCP34
