ELP4 antisense RNA 1 (ELP4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand at the ELP4 gene locus. Antisense lncRNAs typically regulate the expression of their sense counterpart genes through mechanisms such as chromatin modification, transcriptional interference, or modulation of mRNA stability. While the ELP4 gene encodes a component of the Elongator complex—implicated in transcriptional elongation and tRNA modification and associated with neurological disorders like Rolandic epilepsy—there is currently no direct evidence for ELP4-AS1's specific biological or pathological functions. Like other antisense lncRNAs, ELP4-AS1 may participate in the fine-tuning of gene expression at the ELP4 locus or broader chromatin regulatory networks, but detailed experimental characterization has not yet been reported.
