Overview

Embigin pseudogene 1 (EMBP1) is a processed pseudogene of the functional embigin (EMB) gene. EMBP1 does not encode a functional protein and is generally not involved in cellular processes, signal transduction, or disease pathogenesis. In the human genome, EMBP1 is found on chromosome 1, but there are no current data supporting a role for EMBP1 in normal physiology or as a drug target. All significant biological and medical relevance is attributed to the functional gene *embigin* (EMB), a transmembrane glycoprotein and member of the immunoglobulin superfamily involved in cell adhesion, stem cell niche regulation, and metabolism. If information about a therapeutic target is required, embigin (EMB), not EMBP1, is the relevant protein-coding target[2][3][4][1].

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for a pseudogene.

03

Biological functions

None currently known; EMBP1 is a pseudogene and does not have confirmed biological functions
04

Disease associations

None known; there are no clear associations between EMBP1 and disease states. Any such references likely refer to the functional embigin gene (EMB) and not the pseudogene.
