Embryonic Ectoderm Development (EED) is a protein that serves as a core component of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2), which plays a crucial role in epigenetic regulation during embryogenesis and cell differentiation. EED acts as a scaffold subunit within PRC2 and is essential for recognizing trimethylated lysine 27 on histone H3 (H3K27me3), thereby stabilizing the complex and facilitating its enzymatic activity. Aberrations in PRC2 components—including mutations or overexpression of EED—are implicated in various cancers. As such, targeting EED has emerged as an alternative therapeutic strategy to inhibit PRC2 function. Small-molecule inhibitors targeting the interaction surfaces or functional domains of EED are under development as potential chemotherapeutics.
