The Embryonic Ectoderm Development Protein (EED) is a WD40 repeat-containing protein and a core component of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2). It plays a critical role in epigenetic gene silencing by binding to H3K27me3 and allosterically activating PRC2's methyltransferase activity. EED is essential for maintaining pluripotency, regulating cell differentiation, and controlling cell proliferation. Mutations in EED are associated with developmental disorders and cancer, making it a potential therapeutic target for small molecule inhibitors.
