Endogenous Gut Peptide Stimulation (None)

None
Molecular classification

01

Overview

Endogenous gut peptide stimulation refers to the physiological process by which peptides produced within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract are released and act locally or systemically to regulate various aspects of digestion, metabolism, immune response, and tissue repair. Key peptides include GLP-1, GLP-2, CCK, PYY, and ghrelin. These peptides have diverse roles including regulation of appetite and satiety, modulation of insulin secretion and glucose homeostasis, control of gastric emptying and motility, anti-inflammatory effects, and maintenance of mucosal integrity. Endogenous gut proteins also represent a quantitatively large source for bioactive peptide generation through enzymatic cleavage during digestion.

02

Mechanism of action

Gut peptides are released into circulation or act locally upon stimulation, binding to specific receptors (primarily GPCRs) to mediate downstream signaling cascades affecting cellular function. Examples: GLP-1 enhances insulin secretion; CCK induces satiety.
