Endogenous retrovirus group E member 5 (ERVE-5, AC079466.1) is classified as a long non-coding RNA and belongs to the family of endogenous retroviral elements present in the human genome. Endogenous retroviruses are genetic sequences derived from ancient viral infections that have become fixed in species genomes over millions of years. While some lncRNAs are involved in the regulation of cellular processes and disease, ERVE-5 itself remains poorly characterized; there is minimal direct experimental or clinical evidence establishing its biological function or therapeutic relevance.
