The Endogenous retrovirus group FC1 Env polyprotein pseudogene (also known as ERVFC1-1 or ERVFC1) is a human pseudogene derived from an envelope (Env) gene of an endogenous retrovirus (HERV-Fc1) family[7][1]. As a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein and has lost fusogenic properties typical of retroviral envelope genes[1]. While other endogenous retroviral Env proteins can mediate receptor recognition and membrane fusion, this particular pseudogene product is non-functional and does not participate in canonical receptor activity or known biological pathways[1]. There is no evidence it serves as a therapeutic target, nor are there drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with it. Its only recognized role is as a molecular remnant of a retroviral Env gene[7][1].
