Endomucin

Molecular classification
Type I integral membrane glycoprotein, O-glycosylated transmembrane mucin
01

Overview

Endomucin (EMCN) is a type I integral membrane glycoprotein primarily expressed in venous and capillary endothelial cells. It plays a crucial role in vascular protection by maintaining the endothelial glycocalyx and inhibiting leukocyte adhesion. Due to its protective role in vascular integrity, particularly in the context of diabetic retinopathy, it is being explored as a therapeutic target.
