Target intelligence / Profile preview

Endoplasmic reticulum alpha-glucosidase II (Glucosidase II)

Target
Glucosidase II
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Glycoside hydrolase
01

Overview

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) alpha-glucosidase II is a key enzyme involved in the processing of N-linked glycans on nascent glycoproteins within the ER. It acts sequentially after alpha-glucosidase I, trimming glucose residues from N-linked oligosaccharides, which is essential for proper protein folding and quality control in eukaryotic cells. It is a heterodimeric enzyme composed of an alpha (catalytic) and a beta (localization) subunit. Inhibitors targeting this enzyme can disrupt viral morphogenesis and have shown efficacy against various viruses by impairing viral protein maturation.
