Endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment protein 3 (ERGIC3) is a membrane-associated protein involved in vesicle-mediated transport between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi apparatus[3][7]. It regulates the trafficking and positive transport of specific secretory proteins, such as alpha1-antitrypsin (SERPINA1) and haptoglobin (HP)[3][5][7]. ERGIC3 functions as part of the early secretory pathway, supporting the efficient delivery of protein cargos from the ER to the Golgi[1]. It is implicated in cancer biology, recognized as a biomarker for lung adenocarcinoma and regulated by microRNAs in cancer models[3][4]. No drugs or direct therapeutic agents are known to target ERGIC3, nor is it classified as a canonical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme.
