Endosomal Membrane

The endosomal membrane is the lipid bilayer that surrounds endosomes, which are intracellular organelles involved in sorting and trafficking proteins, lipids, and other molecules within eukaryotic cells. The endosomal membrane plays a central role in the endocytic pathway by mediating vesicle fusion, cargo sorting, and communication with other organelles such as lysosomes and the Golgi apparatus. It is essential for nutrient uptake, regulation of cell surface receptor levels, signal transduction modulation, and degradation/recycling of macromolecules. Disruption in their function can lead to diseases related to defective trafficking or signaling.
