Endosomal Toll-Like Receptors (Endosomal TLRs)

Target
Endosomal TLRs
Molecular classification
Pattern Recognition Receptor, Toll-Like Receptor, Receptor, Type I transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Endosomal Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a subfamily of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that detect nucleic acids from pathogens within endosomal compartments. Key members include TLR3, TLR7, TLR8, and TLR9. Activation of these receptors triggers signaling cascades leading to the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons, playing a crucial role in antiviral and antibacterial immunity. However, dysregulation can contribute to autoimmune diseases like SLE. They are localized to endosome membranes and require proteolytic cleavage for full activity.
