Endosulfine alpha pseudogene 1 (ENSAP1)

Target
ENSAP1
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene—does not encode a functional protein; not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, transcription factor, etc.)

Overview

Endosulfine alpha pseudogene 1 (ENSAP1) is a non-functional segment of DNA derived from the family of endosulfine alpha genes. Pseudogenes like ENSAP1 do not encode active proteins and have no established biological function, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. The functional gene in this family is "Endosulfine alpha" (ENSA), which is a cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein that regulates ATP-sensitive potassium channels and insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells. ENSAP1, however, remains a pseudogene with no protein-coding role, clinical utility, or involvement in pharmacology or disease[4].
