Endothelial lipase (LIPG) is an enzyme primarily synthesized and secreted by vascular endothelial cells. It belongs to the triglyceride lipase gene family and is distinguished by its substrate specificity, preferentially hydrolyzing phospholipids on HDL, thereby influencing HDL metabolism and reverse cholesterol transport. It also contributes to the breakdown of triglyceride-rich particles. Increased expression during inflammation makes it relevant in cardiovascular diseases.
