Endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR), also known as activated protein C receptor or CD201, is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein primarily expressed on endothelial cells. It plays a central role in regulating blood coagulation, inflammation, and vascular integrity. EPCR binds both zymogen protein C and its active form APC with high affinity, facilitating the activation of protein C by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex. APC bound to EPCR can activate protease activated receptor–1 (PAR1), leading to cytoprotective signaling. A soluble form of EPCR (sEPCR) exists and can modulate its biological functions.
Enhances activation of protein C, mediates cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory signaling via PAR1.
