Energy metabolism via TCA cycle anaplerosis refers to the set of metabolic processes that replenish intermediates of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, also known as the citric acid or Krebs cycle. The TCA cycle is central to cellular energy production and biosynthesis, acting as a hub for oxidizing nutrients and generating reducing equivalents (NADH, FADH₂) that drive ATP synthesis through oxidative phosphorylation. However, many intermediates of this cycle are siphoned off for biosynthetic purposes—a process called cataplerosis—necessitating their replenishment through anaplerotic reactions.
