Engineered alpha-beta T-cell receptors (TCRs) are synthetic or modified versions of the natural heterodimeric TCR complex found on the surface of T lymphocytes. These engineered receptors are designed to specifically recognize tumor antigens—peptides derived from proteins expressed by cancer cells and presented on their surface in complex with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. The goal is to redirect a patient’s own T cells to selectively target and eliminate tumor cells.
Engineered TCRs recognize tumor-associated antigens presented by MHC molecules, triggering T-cell activation and cytotoxic killing of tumor cells.
