Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein (EGFP) is a synthetic derivative of the naturally occurring Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria [1]. It contains specific amino acid substitutions, notably F64L and S65T, which enhance its brightness, photostability, and folding efficiency at 37 degrees Celsius compared to the wild-type protein [1, 3]. EGFP is primarily used as a reporter gene product in molecular biology to monitor gene expression, protein localization, and cellular processes in real-time [2].
