Enhancer of zeste homolog 1 (EZH1)

Target
EZH1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Histone modification, Transcription factor, Methyltransferase

Overview

Enhancer of zeste homolog 1 (EZH1) is a histone methyltransferase and a core catalytic subunit of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2). It mediates epigenetic gene silencing by catalyzing H3K27 methylation, leading to transcriptional repression. EZH1 plays a role in stem cell maintenance, tissue homeostasis, and response to injury. While primarily studied in the context of cancer, its functional redundancy/complementarity with EZH2 needs to be considered during therapeutic targeting.
