Enteric inflammatory cytokine production refers to the process by which cytokines—small immunomodulatory proteins—are synthesized and released by various cell types in the intestinal mucosa, including enterocytes, dendritic cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages. These cytokines can be pro-inflammatory (such as TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-15, IFN-γ, IL-17, IL-23) or anti-inflammatory (such as IL-10, TGF-β).
