Overview

Enterochromaffin cells are a specialized neuroendocrine cell type within the intestinal epithelium, primarily responsible for producing and secreting serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), which mediates gut motility, secretion, and visceral sensation[1][2][3][6][7][9].
