Overview

Enterococcus faecalis T-110 (formerly known as Streptococcus faecalis T-110) is a specific bacterial strain widely utilized as a probiotic to promote and restore gastrointestinal health. It is a gram-positive, lactic acid-producing coccus that typically resides as a commensal in the human digestive tract. In therapeutic applications, it is often found in multi-strain symbiotic formulations, such as Bio-Three, where it works synergistically with other organisms like Bacillus mesentericus and Clostridium butyricum to modulate the gut environment. The strain functions by fermenting dietary carbohydrates into lactic acid, which lowers the intestinal pH to inhibit the proliferation of enteric pathogens such as Clostridium difficile and Salmonella species. Furthermore, it exhibits immunomodulatory properties by stimulating gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) and increasing the production of secretory IgA, which reinforces the mucosal barrier. While primarily used to treat gastrointestinal disturbances like antibiotic-associated diarrhea and inflammatory bowel disease, its use requires caution in severely immunocompromised patients due to the theoretical risk of opportunistic infection.
