Enteropathogenic Microorganism (N/A)

Target
N/A
Molecular classification
Bacteria, Pathogen
01

Overview

Enteropathogenic microorganisms are bacteria that cause disease in the intestinal tract, leading to gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea. The most well-characterized example is *Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli* (EPEC). Infection typically causes acute watery diarrhea, fever, malaise, and vomiting. Transmission occurs via the fecal-oral route through contaminated food or water.
