Enteropeptidase (ENTK)

Target
ENTK
Molecular classification
Serine protease, Type II transmembrane serine protease
01

Overview

Enteropeptidase, also known as enterokinase, is a serine protease enzyme produced by the cells of the duodenum. It plays a crucial role in digestion by catalyzing the activation of trypsinogen into trypsin, initiating a cascade that leads to the activation of several other pancreatic digestive enzymes. Deficiency can lead to severe congenital disorders characterized by failure to thrive due to malabsorption. Conversely, inappropriate presence may contribute to pancreatitis.
