Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli Colonization Factor CS6 (CS6)

Target
CS6
Molecular classification

01

Overview

CS6 is a colonization factor expressed by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) that mediates bacterial attachment to the small intestinal epithelium. It is a heteropolymeric fiber composed of alternating CssA and CssB subunits, assembled via the chaperone-usher pathway. CS6 binds to sulfatide and fibronectin on host cells, facilitating colonization and subsequent diarrheal disease. It is considered an important antigen for inclusion in candidate vaccines against ETEC infections.
