The Enterovirus 71 (EV-A71) capsid protein is a multi-protein complex forming the outer shell of the virus. It is composed of four structural proteins: VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. The capsid mediates viral entry into host cells through receptor binding (e.g., to SCARB2), encapsidates the viral genome, and undergoes conformational changes to release the genome during uncoating. As such, it is a key target for antiviral drug development.
