Enterovirus A type 71 Capsid Protein (EV-A71 Capsid)

Target
EV-A71 Capsid
Molecular classification
Viral structural protein, Capsid protein
01

Overview

The Enterovirus A type 71 (EV-A71) capsid protein is the outer shell of the virus, composed of VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4 proteins. It protects the viral genome, mediates attachment to host cell receptors like SCARB2 via VP1, and facilitates uncoating. VP1 is a major target for antiviral drugs that bind its hydrophobic pocket, preventing conformational changes needed for infection. Resistance can emerge through mutations in the VP1 pocket.
