The Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) capsid protein is the structural protein complex that forms the protective shell around the viral RNA genome. It is composed of four proteins: VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. VP1 is the most external and immunodominant protein, crucial for receptor binding and a key target for vaccine development. The capsid proteins mediate host cell attachment, facilitate endocytosis, and are essential for the uncoating of viral RNA upon entry into host cells.
