Enterovirus A71 Whole Virus Particle (EV-A71)

Target
EV-A71
Molecular classification
Virus, Picornavirus, Non-enveloped virus
01

Overview

The Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) whole virus particle is the complete infectious form of the virus, consisting of a protein capsid and an RNA genome. It is a causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and can lead to neurological complications. Inactivated whole-virus vaccines are used to prevent EV-A71 infection by eliciting neutralizing antibodies against multiple viral epitopes.

Mechanism of action

Vaccines induce neutralizing antibodies that block viral entry and infection. Antiviral drugs (like Pleconaril) target the capsid to prevent uncoating.
