ENTPD1 antisense RNA 1 (ENTPD1-AS1)

Target
ENTPD1-AS1
Molecular classification
Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), Other (not a protein family, receptor, enzyme, etc.)

Overview

ENTPD1 antisense RNA 1 (ENTPD1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the CD39/ENTPD1 gene region on chromosome 10. It does not encode a protein, but regulates the expression of the CD39 ectonucleotidase gene through nuclear interactions with NCL and HNRNPA1 proteins. ENTPD1-AS1 is enriched in regulatory T cells and Th17 cells, especially in inflammatory conditions such as Crohn’s disease, where its inhibition can restore CD39 expression and modulate immune responses. Although its precise biological and therapeutic roles remain under study, aberrant expression of ENTPD1-AS1 is associated with immunopathology and certain cancers.

Mechanism of action

Antisense RNA oligonucleotides can inhibit ENTPD1-AS1, leading to upregulation of CD39

03

Biological functions

Regulation of CD39 expressionnuclear interaction with nucleolin and HNRNPA1modulation of immune cell function
04

Disease associations

Cancer (expression pattern associated)Inflammatory bowel disease (regulation in Crohn’s disease cells)Immune regulation
05

Safety considerations

Not directly applicable; therapeutic targeting of the antisense RNA could affect immune regulatory pathways and lead to unintended upregulation of CD39 and related functions
06

Interacting drugs

None known (approved drugs interact with CD39/ENTPD1, not ENTPD1-AS1; experimental antisense oligonucleotides target ENTPD1-AS1 in research settings)
07

Biomarkers

ENTPD1-AS1 expression level (potential biomarker for immune cell activity and Crohn’s disease status)
