Envelope Glycoprotein (HIV-1) (Env)

Target
Env
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Viral protein, Fusion protein
01

Overview

The envelope glycoprotein (Env) of HIV-1 is a trimeric complex on the viral surface that mediates entry into host cells. It is synthesized as gp160, which is then cleaved into gp120 and gp41. Gp120 binds to CD4 and coreceptors CCR5 or CXCR4, while gp41 mediates membrane fusion. Env is a major target for neutralizing antibodies and entry inhibitors.
