Overview
Envelope glycoprotein 140 (gp140) is a recombinant, truncated form of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein precursor gp160. It comprises the entire extracellular domains of both gp120 and most of gp41, but lacks the transmembrane and cytoplasmic regions. Gp140 is engineered to mimic the native trimeric structure found on HIV virions and is widely used in vaccine research as an immunogen due to its ability to present relevant epitopes for neutralizing antibody responses. As a target, it is important in the development of vaccines and therapeutics against HIV-1.
