Eosinophil Granulocyte

Molecular classification
Leukocyte, Granulocyte, Immune cell
01

Overview

Eosinophil granulocytes are a type of white blood cell belonging to the granulocyte family. They are characterized by their bi-lobed nucleus and large cytoplasmic granules that stain red with acidic dyes. Eosinophils play a role in host defense against parasites, modulation of allergic responses, and participation in inflammatory reactions. Elevated levels of eosinophils are associated with various diseases, including parasitic infections, allergic diseases, and autoimmune disorders. Excessive activation and degranulation of eosinophils can contribute to tissue injury in chronic inflammatory and allergic conditions.
