Eosinophil Mediator Release

Molecular classification
Cellular process
01

Overview

Eosinophil mediator release refers to the process by which eosinophils secrete a variety of bioactive molecules, including cytotoxic granule proteins, cytokines, chemokines, lipid mediators, enzymes, and growth factors, into surrounding tissues. This release is central to eosinophil function in immune responses, particularly in allergic inflammation and defense against parasites. The mechanisms of release include degranulation (classical and piecemeal) and constitutive secretion. Excessive or dysregulated release contributes to tissue injury in diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and certain forms of COPD.
