Overview

EPB41L4A divergent transcript (EPB41L4A-DT), also known as EPB41L4A-AS2, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the EPB41L4A gene locus. It is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but rather acts as a regulatory RNA molecule. EPB41L4A-DT regulates the expression of neighboring and distant genes in cis and trans, including functions in cell proliferation, cell migration, and WNT/β-catenin signaling pathways[1][2]. It has been implicated in cancer biology, particularly by affecting pathways relevant to thyroid cancer and epithelial-mesenchymal transition, as well as in modulation of inflammatory responses relevant to metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes[3]. At the molecular level, EPB41L4A-DT influences the synthesis and processing of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) and interacts with nuclear protein SUB1, affecting global gene expression patterns, nuclear protein distribution, and nucleolar structure[2]. It is also involved in limiting inflammatory responses by dampening NF-κB pathway activity in immune cells under metabolic stress and inflammation[3]. No small molecule drugs or biomarkers are known to directly target EPB41L4A-DT.
