Target intelligence / Profile preview

EPH Family Receptor (EPH)

Target
EPH
Molecular classification
Receptor, Receptor Tyrosine Kinase
01

Overview

The EPH family receptors are the largest known group of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) in mammals. They play critical roles in cell-cell communication, influencing processes such as embryonic development, tissue patterning, cell migration, axon guidance, and adult tissue homeostasis. These receptors interact with membrane-bound ligands called ephrins to mediate bidirectional signaling between adjacent cells.

02

Mechanism of action

Inhibition of EPH receptor tyrosine kinase activity; modulation of EPH-ephrin interactions.

03

Biological functions

Cell-cell communicationEmbryonic patterningAxon guidanceCell migrationAngiogenesisTissue homeostasisSignal transduction
04

Disease associations

CancerNeurodegenerative diseaseOther diseases involving abnormal cellular organization or movement
05

Safety considerations

Potential for off-target effects due to broad expression patterns.Complexity of bidirectional signaling making therapeutic interventions challenging.Dysregulation can lead to both pro- and anti-tumorigenic effects depending on context.
