EPHA5 antisense RNA 1 (EPHA5-AS1)

Target
EPHA5-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

EPHA5 antisense RNA 1 (EPHA5-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the EPHA5 protein-coding gene. As with other antisense lncRNAs, EPHA5-AS1 is thought to regulate the expression of its corresponding sense gene (EPHA5), potentially by mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, modulation of chromatin structure, or stabilization/destabilization of EPHA5 mRNA. The exact biological and pathological functions of EPHA5-AS1 remain unclear, and it is not a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme, but rather acts as a regulatory RNA. No evidence was found for its direct targeting by drugs, nor for its use as a clinical biomarker or association with specific safety concerns.

Other names
EPHA5-AS1
02

Mechanism of action

Regulation of the expression of the EPHA5 gene, likely by antisense RNA interference mechanisms; antisense lncRNAs can regulate sense mRNA levels by forming RNA-RNA duplexes, transcriptional interference, or chromatin remodeling

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (specifically, regulation of the EPHA5 gene expression via an antisense mechanism)
04

Disease associations

Other (potential regulatory role in disease states, but no direct evidence implicating EPHA5-AS1 specifically as a primary disease driver was found)
