Ephrin-A2 is a member of the ephrin family of proteins and is encoded by the EFNA2 gene. It acts as a ligand for Eph receptor tyrosine kinases, especially those in the EphA subclass. Ephrin-A2 is anchored to the cell membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage. The ephrin–Eph signaling system is crucial for embryonic development, particularly for the nervous system, and mediates functions such as cell adhesion, migration, and axon guidance. Unlike Eph receptor A2 (EPHA2), which is a prominent therapeutic target in cancer and other diseases, Ephrin-A2 itself is not commonly the direct target for drug development.
