Overview

Ephrin receptors (Eph receptors) are the largest family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) in humans, playing crucial roles in cell communication, development, and disease processes such as cancer and immune regulation. They are divided into EphA and EphB subfamilies and interact with ephrin-A and ephrin-B ligands. Ligand binding induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation, triggering downstream signaling cascades that regulate cytoskeletal dynamics, cell shape/movement, proliferation/survival/apoptosis. The Eph/ephrin interaction induces bidirectional signaling.
