Ephrin type-A receptors are a subclass within the largest known family of receptor tyrosine kinases. These membrane-bound proteins mediate contact-dependent bidirectional signaling through interactions with ephrin-A ligands on adjacent cells. EphA receptors play critical roles in embryonic development—particularly axon guidance, tissue boundary formation, and cell migration—as well as adult processes such as angiogenesis and stem cell differentiation. In humans, there are nine known EphA receptors (EPHA1–8 and EPHA10). Dysregulation or altered expression of these receptors has been implicated in cancer progression and other diseases involving abnormal cell communication or movement. Drugs targeting this family typically act by inhibiting their intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity.
