Ephrin receptor A3 (EPHA3) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds to ephrin-A ligands. It mediates contact-dependent bidirectional signaling essential for tissue patterning, axon guidance, cell migration, adhesion, and segregation during development. In adults, these pathways can influence angiogenesis and cancer progression. It can function either as a tumor suppressor or promoter depending on cellular context. Frequently mutated in lung cancer and other tumors; loss-of-function mutations may exert dominant-negative effects.
