Epidermal growth factor-like protein 8 (EGFL8) is a member of the EGF-like domain family, a group of proteins containing EGF-like motifs which mediate protein-protein interactions and participate in diverse physiological functions[1]. EGFL8 has a conserved domain organization with an EMI domain and two EGF-like domains, including a calcium-binding subtype, and is predicted to be a secreted protein[1][5]. It is broadly expressed in various tissues, notably in the thymus, lymph nodes, testis, ovary, epithelial, and digestive tissues in mice[1]. EGFL8 exerts negative regulatory roles in mouse thymic epithelial cells and thymocytes, influencing proliferation, growth, and differentiation, and modulating genes related to immune and cell cycle pathways[5]. There is little published evidence for its involvement as a therapeutic target or for any drugs that act directly on EGFL8.
