Overview

Epidermis heating refers to the elevation of temperature specifically within the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis), resulting from exposure to environmental heat sources, direct contact with hot surfaces, or medical interventions. Biological responses include vasodilation of cutaneous blood vessels, increased blood flow, activation of sweat glands, and stimulation of cutaneous thermoreceptors, with the underlying purpose of dissipating excess body heat and maintaining core temperature[1][3][9]. Excessive heating can cause burns, erythema, and inflammatory changes, but this process is a physiological phenomenon, not a molecular target for pharmaceutical intervention[1][3][9].
