Epididymal protein 13 (EDDM13), also known as SPINK13 (Serine protease inhibitor Kazal-type 13), is a protein expressed specifically in the initial segment of the epididymis in mammals[1][3]. It contains a Kazal-type serine protease inhibitor domain and is believed to play an essential role in sperm maturation by inhibiting proteases on the surface of maturing sperm, particularly during the regulation of acrosome reaction[1]. SPINK13 is androgen-responsive, present on the sperm head, and necessary for normal sperm function and male fertility in rodents[1]. However, there is no evidence linking EDDM13 as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or druggable protein.
